When a Week is More than 7 Days
"Now to God be the glory, who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine." (Ephesians 3:20)
Daily we hear of conflict, turmoil, war, natural and human-caused disasters, and chaos throughout the world. When we hear of these things our hearts pull us toward God, and God pulls us toward compassion. In the midst of suffering, God pulls us, calls us, uses us to be compassion. It is the church's call to represent God's compassion in this wounded and broken world.
Week of Compassion is the relief, refugee, and development mission fund for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and works with partners to alleviate suffering throughout the world. Together we work to create the world God imagines: a world where there is 'shalom' or wholeness, a world where suffering ends and equity reigns, a world of love and grace, of safe water and food sources, a world where the human spirit can not just survive, but thrive. Building peace and healing is the work we are called to do as the body of Christ.
The month of February is dedicated to compassionate giving to Week of Compassion. Each week of worship we will focus on our call to live God's compassion in our broken world.
